Days we accept consignments
We receive consignments any time we are open. No appointment is necessary. All items must be freshly laundered and brought in on hangers. We have hangers you can pick up at the store. During your first visit we will set up your account, review our store policies and answer any questions that you may have. Once your account has been established, you can simply drop off your items during our regular business hours. Within 24 hours, we will separate the items to consign and return the items we declined. Due to limited storage space, we request that you return within 14 days to pick up any “No Thank-you’s”. If items are not retrieved within 14 days, they will be donated to charity.
Items we accept
It is highly recommended that you visit our store prior to consigning to familiarize yourself with the items that we sell and how items are priced. It is important for consignors to understand that we are not a Thrift Store. We will review the items and make our selection based on the preferences of our customers, current inventory, current season and condition of the item.
Items we decline to accept
We strive to meet the needs of our consignors & customers. We wish we could accept everything from everyone, but due to space limitations and our customers preferences, we must gratefully decline some items. We do not have the following policies to be disrespectful, we have them because this is our business model we have chosen to follow. If your items are not accepted, please understand our store constraints. We are in no way implying that there is something wrong with your clothes or style, just that they are items that we cannot sell at this time. We value you and your patronage!
We will not accept the following items:
How to prepare your items
As you prepare your items to bring in, ask yourself if you would purchase that item in its current condition.
Consignment Terms
There are two selling seasons at My Best Friend's Closet: The consignment period is by season. The earlier in the season you bring your clothes in, the longer your consignment period. Pricing and markdowns are at the discretion of the store. Prices are determined by our experienced staff and what our customers are willing to pay. We will work hard to get you the best possible price for your merchandise. To keep your items selling, the price will be reduced in approximately four weeks.
Consignments will be accepted as follows:
How consigners are paid
Consigners will receive 40% of the selling price. Consigners will be paid in check, cash or store credit. You may check your account balance by phone, but please limit your calls to once weekly. Our main goal is to sell your clothes, and calling frequently to check your balance limits our time with customers. Consigners can pick up monies owed during our regular store hours. We will only mail out checks if it is a hardship to stop in the store (i.e. - live too far away, no transportation, etc). There will be a $1.00 processing fee to mail a check and the fee will be deducted from the balance. It is your responsibility to keep in touch with My Best Friend’s Closet about your items and account balances. The consignor has 6 months from the end date on the contract to claim money owed otherwise it is forfeited to the store.
What to do at the end of your consignment period
If the consignor wants any unsold items returned it is the consignors responsibility to locate the items on the sales floor. Stop at the store during the following pick up time frame and ask for a print out of unsold items:
All Spring/Summer consignments not reclaimed will become store property after August 15th. All Fall/Winter consignments will become store property after February 15th. Once the items become store property their will be an end of season $1 sale to recoup the cost of supplies. After the sale, the items will be donated to the Trading Post or Church.
